Pre-historic Room

EN 01

The antiquities exhibited are mostly found in the south of Thailand, such as the bronze drum from Ta Rua Sub-district, Mueang District Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, stone tools, earthenware and beads from Chumphon, Pattalung, Surat Thani and Nakhon Si Thammarat.
• The pre-historic bronze drum from the metal age which is aged around 2,500 years was found in Kiek Kai Village, Ta Rua Sub-district, Mueang District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province.

Brahman Room - Hindu

In society during the pre-historic age, cultural and social changes which resulted from trading with outsiders with their own cultures and advanced technology brought about social, economic, political and cultural changes. There is evidence of the settlement by the Indian who also brought their religious cultures, whether Brahman – Hindu and Buddhism. Specifically, Sikhism and Vaishnavism of Brahman – Hindu had been prosperous as well as Buddhism in the southern peninsula since the 10th Buddhist century.

Buddhism Room

Historical evidence which indicated the arrival of Buddhism in the south-east Asian peninsula from a myth concerning the spread of Buddhism by Ashoka the Great of India to the land of Suvarnabhumi showed that there were contact and exchange of traditions and cultures along with produces and goods, especially religious beliefs and religions before Buddhism. • Hindu was so prevailing that it had been rooted in the southern peninsula from the 11th Buddhist century and onward.
• The Buddha statue in the attitude of subduing Mara and the bronze Sihing Buddha statue are categorized in Ayutthaya art in the group of Nakhon Si Thammarat craft from the 23rd - 24th Buddhist century. They were found at Sai Ngam Temple in Lan Saka District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province.
• The engraved wooden tympanum is the southern art in 1768 which was taken from Sa Rieng Temple in Mueang District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province.

Fine Arts Room

Nakhon Si Thammarat has been an important city since the ancient times, for it has built a relationship with certain countries in both Asia continent and European continent, especially in terms of trade. Thus, porcelain is exhibited in this room such as Chinese porcelain from certain dynasties, An Nam (Vietnamese) porcelain, Japanese porcelain, Thai porcelain from the Srivijaya era, Lopburi era, Ayutthata era and Rattanakosin era.
• Nakhon Si Thammarat local brocade from Rattanakosin era during the reign of King Rama 2 - 3
• Lygodium wickerwork from Rattanakosin era during the reign of King Rama 5 which is the unique handicraft of Nakhon Si Thammarat.
In addition, Ganya boat backrest painted with gold for the royal yacht, which is one of the fine art objects indicating local wisdom of Nakhon Si Thammarat artisans, is displayed. This boat backrest was the one which Chao Phraya Suthammontri (Nu Prom Na Nakhon), who was Nakhon Si Thammarat Governor, granted to King Chulalongkorn at the time when he visited Si Thammarat City.
• Panak Ganya Throne painted with gold from Rattanakosin era during the reign of King Rama 5
• The earthenware jug from Srivijaya era in the 14th – 17th Buddhist century was found at (abandoned) Narong Temple which is now a police flat next to Petcharik Temple in Mueang District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province.

Phra Rattana Thatchamunee Si Thammarat Room (Muang Rattana Chathera Siriran)

This room houses personal items of Phra Rattana Thatchamunee Si Thammarat (Muang Rattana Chathera Siriran), the primate of Nakhon Si Thammarat and Pattani during the reign of King Rama 5 (1899-1901) and the former abbot of Pho Temple, such as wooden bed engraved with Chinese patterns glided and coated with Chat liquid, pearl wares, souvenirs from the coronation ceremony of King Rama 6, porcelain, fans of rank, Talipot fans and monk fans.

Nakhon Si Thammarat Local Wisdom Room

In the new building, Nakhon Si Thammarat local wisdoms are displayed in 2 rooms. Nakhon Si Thammarat local lifestyles from birth, studying, being ordained, getting married along with Islamic food, are exhibited here. In addition, this room provides knowledge about settlement, building houses, everyday equipment and equipment for making a living such as agricultural tools and farming tools, medicines and funeral arrangements, as well as knowledge about local plays such as Manohra, Talung, Pleng Bok and Gor Lor.

Tambralinga Brahman Exhibition Hall

Tambralinga was an original name of Nakhon Si Thammarat. Evidences of archeological sites and objects related to Brahman such as Lingam with Drona Yoni base and antiquities from (abandoned) Pho Temple were found in Khanom District, Tasala District and Mueang District. At present, the piles used to decorate the doorframe, lotus bases and natural Lingams were found in the mountain in Khao Ka Archeological Site, and pieces of doorframe were found in Mokalan Archeological Site.
